Three days of music-making, teamwork and live performance for young players aged 8 to 16. Learn real songs, play with a real band, perform for a real audience.
Each workshop runs over three days during school holidays. The young musicians arrive, choose songs together, split into instrument groups and get to work — guided by experienced teachers at every step. It ends with a proper live performance.
Everyone listens to music together and votes on the songs to play. Then the real learning starts — breaking each song down by instrument and building it back up as a band. Ends with a jam session.
Day one's song gets locked in. A second song gets added. The focus shifts to playing together — timing, listening, dynamics, and making it feel like a real band rather than a collection of individuals.
Final rehearsals, last-minute tweaks, and then the performance. Parents, family and friends come to watch. The musicians play what they've put together over three days — properly, on a stage.
If your child has been learning an instrument for six months or more, they're ready. The workshops are designed to be inclusive and supportive — it doesn't matter what level they're at, as long as they love music and want to play with others.
Ages 8 to 16. All instruments welcome — we've worked with guitarists, bassists, drummers, singers, pianists, keyboardists, saxophonists, trumpeters, ukuleleists and more.
In The Pocket is run by a team of experienced music teachers who've been doing this for over a decade. Rodrigo Lemos — the same teacher behind Online Guitar School — leads the guitar section at every workshop.
He brings the same warmth, energy and musical depth that his online students know well. If your child takes guitar lessons with Rodrigo, the workshop is a natural extension of that work — but in a band context, with other young musicians around them.

M. absolutely loved the workshop and performance and said he wants to do it all over again. So incredible to see how amazing they all played and harmonised. The energy was phenomenal!
My daughter has been under Rodrigo's and Joe's wings for a good few years and I can't thank them enough. They have helped her with her confidence, widened her music interests, and she is now confident enough to jam and improvise with friends.
Learning to play the drums is so much fun, but what makes it even better is meeting and playing with other musicians. The workshops have been fun, relaxed and a great collaborative experience. My son can't wait for the summer workshop.
If you or anyone you know has a young musician at home aged 8–16, the workshop is a brilliant way to get them playing with other young musicians — in a relaxed, supportive environment with experienced teachers.
